Rush to Release R40 10-DVD Collector’s Set

R-40 Thanks to a head’s up from RushIsABand we learn that Rush is putting out a 10-DVD box set called Rush R40 to celebrate the band’s 40-year anniversary. It releases November 11 and you can pre-order it now on Amazon.

The 10-disc version retails for $87.49. It also comes in a 6-disc Blu-ray version, which retails for $97.99.

From the product description:

“2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of Rush s eponymous debut album. This deluxe collector s box set brings together live performances by Rush from each decade of their career. It includes Rush in Rio, R30, Snakes & Arrows Live, Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland, and Clockwork Angels Tour, plus a spectacular bonus disc of previously unseen and unreleased live material stretching from 1974 to 2013. The bonus disc features over two hours of unreleased footage including their masterpiece 2112 in its entirety, the Laura Secord School performance with John Rutsey from 1974 that features two unreleased Rush songs and a cover of “Bad Boy” made famous by the Beatles, the closing tour film I Still Love You Man from the Time Machine Tour with Paul Rudd & Jason Segal, and the monumental 2013 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony with Dave Grohl & Taylor Hawkins. The 10-DVD set is presented in a hardcover book containing rare, unreleased photos and memorabilia.”

There have already been a couple of comments about it posted on Amazon:

“Any longtime Rush fan will already likely have all these discs except the bonus disc. I was really looking forward to HBO or someone to put out the Rock Hall induction ceremony. I guess it will just have to reside on my DVR forever. The additional bonus material would be terrific too. But, I’m not going to buy everything I aready have again to get that bonus disc. That said, this would make a terrific set for any new Rush fan.”—Steve B

While the stuff included on this set is indeed great, anybody who is in the market for this box set already has all of these, in some cases already on both DVD and Blu Ray. For Rush’s 40th Anniversary they had a chance to do something amazing, not just a repackaging of previous releases with a bonus disc to try and get people to double-dip. If they would have finally released the Replay X3 (Exit Stage Left, Grace Under Pressure, A Show of Hands) on Blu Ray along with the Bonus Disc they would have sold a lot more than this set is going to. Hopefully this will be a flop so record companies will think twice before trying to fleece fans.—Gregg

Rush: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Excellence

Great book, read slowly to fully enjoy it
“A very in depth conversation from Rush’s start to the present. It is not a lot read. You probably won’t rifle through this in a single sitting, and the author will likely challenge a lot of your interpretations of many of the songs. But more than worth considering the impact on Rush lyrics far beyond Rand and Aristotle. Pick it up.”—Alan L. Emery
